Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

The function of Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Communion (EMHC) is to distribute Holy Communion, either within Mass or by taking it to a sick person, when an ordained minister (bishop, priest or deacon) is absent or impeded. They are commissioned by the Church.

In order to avoid confusion about this function, an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion is not to be called a “special minister of Holy Communion”, or an “extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist”, or a “special minister of the Eucharist.” The only minister of the Eucharist is the priest.

Presently, the Santuario del Sto. Cristo Parish has thirty-six (36) active EMHC who are performing the required liturgical services particularly the Sunday Masses and holy days of obligation.
