Closing of the Holy Door

In Misericordiae Vultus (the Bull of Indiction of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy), Pope Francis said that “the practice of pilgrimage has a special place in the Holy Year because it represents the journey each of  us makes in his life. Life itself is a pilgrimage, and the human being is a ‘viator’, a pilgrim traveling along the road, making his way to the desired destination.”
On November 20, 2016, Feast of Christ the King, Pope Francis will close the Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica officially ending the Jubilee of Mercy.

In the Archdiocese of Manila, the four Pilgrim Churches (Our Lady of Sorrows, Archdiocesan Shrine of the Divine Mercy, National Shrine of the Sacred Heart and our Santuario del Sto. Cristo) will close the Jubilee on November 12, Saturday. This will be followed by the closing at the Manila Cathedral the next day, November 13, Sunday, to be presided by Archbishop Luis Cardinal Tagle.

As customary, the churches will be the first to close the celebrations, to be followed by the Cathedral led by the Archbishop and the last, by the Pope.
