The Gesture of Standing

The Gesture of Standing

STANDING expresses reverence but also joy, a readiness to hear and to be on the way. It is the attitude of those keeping watch. Therefore, for early Christianity, this was the normal posture for prayer and worship (cf. Lk 18:11; 22:46). At the same time, this upgright posture makes the future present (cf.Rev 7:9)

Standing is a typical easter attitude, since liberation from sin and death through the paschal mystery of Christ has freed the community from slavery. Therefore, it no longer needs to adopt any kind of submissive attitude.

Standing is also the posture of those who await the return of Christ, for before the Son of Man only those will stand erect who have nothing to fear from his justice (cf. Mal 3:2). And, finally, the chosen in heaven stand and give thanks (cf. Rev 7:9; 15:2)

Morality Vs Legality

Morality Vs Legality
Many tend to confuse morality with legality. If something is legal, permissible by law, they think it must be morally good. Something is legal when it does not contradict any law of the state, but it is morally good only if its nature, intention and circumstances are positively good for that person as person-in-community, that, is according to moral norms. For example, if Congress approved the Bill on abortion, even if abortion will then be legal in the Philippines, it will always be immoral.

"Abortion is not just the termination of some fetus… abortion is about you, preventing the murder of your own children, your own grand children."

What can you do to change your child’s behavior?

What can you do to change your child’s behavior?

Children tend to continue a behavior when it is rewarded and stop a behavior when it is ignored.

Consistency in your reaction to a behavior is important becuase rewarding and punishing the same behavior at different times confuses your child.

When you think your child's behavior might be a problem, you have 3 choices:

1) Decide that the behavior is not a problem because it's appropriate to the child's age and stage of development

2) Attempt to stop the behavior, either by ignoring it or by punishing it.

3) Introduce a new behavior that you prefer and reinforce it by rewarding your child
